The Future's Already Here - Communities stepping into our power
“The future is already here, it's just not evenly distributed” - American speculative fiction author William Gibson.
Things can be different. We know it, because The Future Is Already Here - in pockets, through projects and initiatives which show us better ways and give us a glimpse of a positive, thriving future. We know things need to change for the better. People struggle to meet basic needs, to find fulfilling work, to feel connected to each other and nature. Our economy is not working for too many people; our environment and communities are in crisis; our leaders and the systems of which they are part don’t seem to be able to improve things.
We also know that people are already discovering alternative ways to produce and share food, to put land, buildings and sources of energy into community hands, to work together to solve local problems and to re-discover our initiative, voice and power to shape our future. The Future Is Already Here - When Communities step into their power.
This one-day event will make visible the practical, community-led solutions already emerging across Northern Ireland - to address the climate and ecological crisis, community fracture and the dysfunction in our economy. It will bring together those involved in some of these innovative approaches with those ready to explore the potential of new, local ways to change our broken systems.

It aims to inspire, equip and connect more people and communities to step into our power and shape a thriving, resilient, regenerative future for everyone.
The Future Is Already Here is brought to you by three organisations passionate about supporting ordinary citizens to make positive change:

Co-operative Alternatives is the only body in Northern Ireland entirely devoted to developing successful co-operatives and community benefit societies.
Positive Carrickfergus is a community interest company set up and led by local people working together to build community, promote community-led regeneration and increase civic participation so that Carrickfergus is a great place to live.
