Australian Stories of Transition

Join us for the first session of the Day, hosted by Dan Rudolph and featuring Peter Duggan, Kit Shepherd and Paul Shelton from Transition Australia.

Stories of Transition is a series of online talks held every three months where we hear stories from three different Transition or other related groups from around Australia and the world. Attendees get to hear what different groups are currently doing and may be inspired to try similar ideas in their own area.

The session will be held in English.

A little bit more about the presenters:

Peter Duggan is the convenor of Transition Dubbo and is on the committee for Transition Australia. He moved to the regional town of Dubbo in 2015 where he works as a heritage architect. Peter loves connecting with others in his local community and being inspired by their vast knowledges and experiences. He has undertaken a number of permaculture and gardening workshops over the years and loves to help out at some of the local community gardens.

Kit Shepherd convenes Transition Bondi, a group that began in 2012 at the iconic beachside tourist suburb of Sydney, Australia. She is the last remaining active member of the original group, excited to be riding the waves of change that come with a changing volunteer team. Her background is in Adult Community Education including the prison system, physical theatre and yoga. Her emphasis is on building community through the projects run by Transition Bondi (gardening, education, markets and slow fashion) and has an appetite for the ‘inner’ aspects of the group’s life. Games around the dinner table are a great connector.

Paul Shelton is the convenor of Transition Australia.
Transition Australia was set up to connect and support groups in Australia on their transition journey. We want to make it easier for these groups to find each other, share resources, learn and be inspired. These groups may focus on sustainability, food security, or equity but they share the aim to build a better world – from the ground up.

Mary Stringer worked with others in 2017 to set up Transition Australia as a national Hub to connect grassroots transition and like-minded groups throughout Australia. She continues in the role of Secretary and admin volunteer. Mary co-founded her local group, Transition Banyule (in Melbourne) in 2009. She is a trained facilitator in The Work That Reconnects and loves the way the transition movement embraces this work as part of Inner Transition. She personally finds the insights and practices of The Work That Reconnects as crucial for mental well-being in the face of global crises.
